After a long wait , altogether four years from inception to day one, our building project is underway and day two started - I can hear the banging in the background of two builders trying to prize rusted metal sheets from woodwormy beams as I write.

We are planning geothermal heating and have dug the first trial hole to see what the ground is like in garden. 1.8 m of soil and sand - no stones found whatsoever.

Today's achievements - the first floors of the sheds are down. We had so hoped to reuse some of the lovely old wood which was two or three inches thick, ten to twelve inches wide and some up to ten feet long - but were disappointed if not surprised to discover it is full of woodworm. We did have some interesting finds in the upper floor of one of the sheds - a very old fire extinguisher made from what looks like copper and a metal box full of live ammunition which we took to the police. We can be very glad the shed never burnt down!

Our JCB managed to dig the other test holes for the surveyor today - but only just.

We are progressing!
